Taylor and Ashley’s wedding day was a day filled with coincidences, ridiculous fun, and personality. The day began with the discovery that Taylor (the groom) had purchased an old VW bus that was used in my wedding. We had borrowed the van from one of my dad’s employees as our get a way vehicle. Shortly after that, he sold it to Taylor. It was good to see the old bus again and to shoot it with a different bride.

We shot their portraits with their family and bride party in park in Black Forest. It was here that I started to discover a few things about the bride and groom. Ashley, the bride, has a contagious smile. She lights up a room (and even a park). Sometimes people get shy in front of the camera and it is hard to get their true personalities to show through. Ashley was a natural and laughed through the whole process. Taylor is a total goof ball. Grooms can be rather nervous on the wedding day but Taylor was anything but. He made goofy faces, joked around and was the life of the party.

Their ceremony was wonderful. You could feel the love that Taylor and Ashley had. It was palpable in the air. The were both giddy  with excitement to be with each other for the rest of their lives. After the ceremony, the bridal party and the couple grabbed a prop box that they had brought and were just complete goof balls. I had a blast shooting them. They were all so laid back and were just there to have a good time and not take themselves to seriously. The entire wedding party was announced wearing these wonderful props and I don’t think the 70s wigs, sombreros, and hard hats left the party.

Taylor and Ashley did a wonderful job at making sure their personalities went into the day. From the type writer guest book, the old VW bus, the props, and even the handmade cake toppers created by the bride, everything spoke of their fun, carefree character. They brought an unexpected and stress-free charisma to their day. Which just goes to show you that it is much better to be you than try to be something you are not.
