On Saturday morning, I got a call around nine o’clock. Naturally being a college student, I was still in bed and in between sleep and awake. I decided not to answer it because I didn’t know who it was and didn’t want to sound like I had just woke up. I waited for my voicemail to appear and then dialed in to listen. It was my photography teacher, Carol Dass. I took both a Toy Camera class (best thing ever) and Intermediate Photography with her. She has always been so encouraging to me and has always been a big supporter of my art. I am so thankful for her. Anyway, she told me that she was showing some of my Holga (the camera we use in Toy Camera. It is all plastic and very much fun) work to her best friend and fellow photographer Heather Oelklaus, who also happens to own the Heebee Jeebees Gallery on Colorado Ave. She fell in love with my stuff and had an artist cancel for her February and March gallery show. I called her back right away and talked to Heather. She said that my work inspired her to take out her own Holga and go shooting. She was so encouraging and really beleived in my work. She wanted me to be the artist in her gallery for February and March.

I couldn’t believe it.

So. . . of course I said I would love too. We talked a little longer about logistics and everything. When I hung up the phone, I jumped around my room and then quickly proceded to call my mom and dad and my friends.

I am so excited to have this opportunity. I thank God so much for opening doors and all that he has done.  God is so good and he knows the desires of our hearts. Way cool!

I think I am going to name my show ‘The Memories of Sally Shoebox’. They are all black and white 120 format Hogla prints that I developed and printed myself. They are pictures that represent remembering my childhood and the ease of roaming the neighborhood and knowing that that time has passed. I will let everyone know what and when the details are and when you can come and celebrate the opening of my first solo show. . . . Man. I feel like a real artist. It is cool. 🙂

P.S. I will post some of the pieces from the work when I get them scanned.
